I've checked the root directory and the mscd drivers are all there in place. I'm presuming I need additional drivers for this drive. How am I meant to get myself out of this mess? Joined Dec 19, Messages You could try going to the dvd manufacturer's web site for drivers. Joined Jun 26, Messages 7, The Cd-Rom drivers would have to be located on your boot disk to be initialised.

Are you using a startup disk you created in Windows? In any regard, you can go to www. I created the startup disk using a windows 98se CD, so all the necessary drivers should be on it, but I'm still getting that error message. How's that for hardware support!!! Thanks, Adam.

I believe that I need the driver oemcd I don't need driver mscd anymore , because of the error or message "oemcd driver not found".

I just can't seem to locate a download source for this driver. December 18th, , AM 7. Posts 1, There is no driver to download for "oemcd" As Nick stated oemcd is just a name chosen as a label , as a name for the cdrom, in fact if the entries matched in config. The reason you are getting an error is probably because the autoexec and config are not correctly set up, but since you don't actually need them anyway..

It is always used in conjunction with a file in the config. Both the Autoexec. This is required. Now in your case instead of NC your system uses the label oemcd SYS which is in your case is oakcdrom. Now , assuming you even want to bother with all this which win98 does not need , you may want to rewrite the files to point correctly to wherever MSCDEX and oakcdrom. You could either rename autoexec.

Then go to selective startup and unselect config and autoexec. This will rename the files as config. The only things I have placed in the autoexec file now is a line calling a boot time dos virus scanner and a couple of lines my ancient sound card needs.

December 18th, , PM 8. GW makes the same points I did. You do not need autoexec. In dos type ren autoexec. But if you have the commands in autoexec. As with our examples, this is where you fail to accurately enter the command. December 19th, , AM 9. Originally Posted by chalonen. To an amateur like me, to call out as being drivers in the error message is very misleading.

Now it has caused a new line of thinking for the problem solution. With "rem" in front of config. See if you get any errors on the reboot then place any other lines as needed in the new blank autoexec. I don't have a config. COM The first is inserted automatically by my antivirus and the next two by my sound card. So, thats it, 3 lines and no worrysome calls to mscdex etc I've even taken the floppy drive of the list of things to boot from in the BIOS menu so that the CD drive is the only thing I ask it to boot from but it says "Invalid system disk.

Replace the disk and then press any key". Browse Community. Turn on suggestions. Auto-suggest helps you quickly narrow down your search results by suggesting possible matches as you type. Showing results for. Search instead for. Did you mean:.
